I grew up on a farm in southern Minnesota with four sisters and a brother. Title 9 passed when I was in 8th grade, so I was able to play volleyball, softball, and run track in high school. My parents were great – Dad could do anything he set his mind to, and Mom is still healthy at 90, baking and writing poems.
After studying landscape architecture at the University of Minnesota, I started a garden maintenance business in the 1980s, and still work for some of my original clients. I married my husband Andy when we were 40, and his support has given me the freedom to do what I do.
I’m grateful for the congregation and for my job as secretary here at Holy Cross, starting in 2005. I knew I wanted the position as soon as I walked into the office. The work is always interesting, often challenging, and my hours dovetail well with gardening. Pastors Holland, Brutlag, and Meyer have been terrific to work with and I’ve learned from all of them. Being able to walk to work along the creek and bring our dog Gordy to the office has been a huge perk. She’s always enthusiastic! Thank you, Holy Cross.
